A manual sounds like a pretty handy thing to have—to help you troubleshoot your washing machine or fix your phone. But when we make imaginary manuals about the people in our lives, it can be anything but helpful.

On today’s episode we discuss not just a manual, but THE Manual! It’s not a physical book—it’s a frame of mind that can seriously give the relationships in our lives a hard time. Spouses, children, in-laws, clients, friends—you name it! Basically, when we create a mental “manual” about the perfect friend, the perfect daughter, the perfect husband, we’re setting the people in our lives up for failure. But don’t worry, we’ll also discuss some ways to “de-manualify” your thinking and to make you more content with the situations you’re in.
