Awakening Part I

I am so grateful for discovering the poem Awakening by Virginia Marie Swift a few years ago.

It begins, “A time comes in your life when you finally get it…When in the midst of all your fears and insanity you stop dead in your tracks and somewhere, the voice inside your head cries out – ENOUGH!”

She had my attention…

“Enough fighting and crying, or struggling to hold on. And, like a child quieting down after a blind tantrum, your sobs begin to subside, you shudder once or twice, you blink back your tears, and through a mantle of wet lashes, you begin to look at the world through new eyes.

This is your awakening…”

When I first read this poem, I had no idea at the time that my path would unfold into life coaching, but I’m not surprised. Words have always mattered to me (which is, by the way, a great thing for a Speech Path;)). Words I read. Words I hear. Words we think. Words I’m writing right now. Words evoke feelings. Words connect and inspire us. Words are powerful. The words we think today explain our current reality. This is part of the reason I rewrote every word in this poem, building a deeper connection to them in the process, and I reread these words often. Over time these powerful words lifted off the page and started to manifest in my own life.

Throughout this blog, I quote part of the poem and then reflect on my own life. I reference myself as in the process of learning because that’s the truth. As long as I’m breathing, I’ll be committed to learning and becoming the best possible version of myself. It is a lifelong journey and we get it wrong A LOT of the time. And that is TOTALLY OK. We are 100% human.

Awakening is a poem that’s all about self-responsibility and self-empowerment.

“You realize that it’s time to stop hoping and waiting for something to change, or for happiness, safety, and security to come galloping over the next horizon…”

I am learning to take complete ownership of everything inside my head and inside my life.

“…any kind of guarantee of “happily ever after” must begin with you.”

I am learning that all of my power lies within. It starts in my mind and with a thought. The quality of my thoughts determine the quality of my life. Light, peace, love, and serenity come from INSIDE; no matter the circumstance. They are already within you.

Stay tuned for next week’s blog – Part 2 of Awakening
